Child Development

Child Development is a KS4 option subject offered to all girls in year 10. We follow the Cambridge National specification written by the OCR examining group and study such things as:

  • Reproduction
  • Contraception and conception
  • Pregnancy and birth
  • The new baby
  • Physical, intellectual and social  development from birth to five years.
  • The equipment needs of a child of 0-5 years old
  • Nutrition during pregnancy and for feeding young children
  • Safety and first aid
  • Healthy living and childhood diseases.
As you can see it is a very varied and interesting course and totally relevant to the lives of our young girls and the women they will become. As well as preparing girls for a career in childcare and other related fields such as nursing , midwifery, social work and teaching, it also aims to equip the girls with information and advice for 'when and if' they decide to become a parent. It is a very popular course.
